Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD)

Buildings with a great indoor environment for students, workers, residents or patients. Buildings and infrastructure that not only have reduced impact on the local and global environment, but have a positive impact. Buildings delivering high running and maintenance cost savings. These are the fundamental goals of ESD.

Whether it's passive design advice, working with building compliance, assistance with rating tools, developing computer simulation models to test designs for energy efficiency and use of natural light or designing low carbon and renewable energy systems EWE offer a suite of specialist services in ESD.

Building Energy Compliance

It’s The Law. A building design that’s under the threshold of Part J compliance isn’t legal. Therefore it’s important for building owners, developers, designers and builders get it right. Energy Water and Environment (EWE) specialise in both compliance methods: Deemed-to-satisfy or Verification method

EWE can undertake ratings for both the commercial and residential sectors.

Cost Benefit Analysis

Energy Water and Environment have undertaken cost benefit analyses on both infrastructure and building services projects. This important work provides decision makers with financial, social and environmental costs and benefits to make informed decisions about their projects. CBA's can also earn valuable points in both Green Star and IS Rating tools.

Energy Audits

There are multiple reasons organisations require energy audits. Whether it’s to reduce running costs, to avoid impacts of increasing energy prices and a low carbon economy or to reduce carbon emissions Energy Water and Environment (EWE) can carry out energy audits to all levels of Australian Standards. EWE deliver practical, cost effective and innovative energy saving initiatives suited to our client's purposes.

Rating Tools

The National Australian Built Environment Rating Scheme (NABERS) and Green Star are voluntary rating tools used to benchmark high end buildings. NABERS focusses on existing building operation and Green Star focusses on the design and construction of new builds and major refurbishments. The IS Rating tool administered by the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia is a rating system that generally rates the sustainable initiatives within road, rail or other large scale infrastructure projects.

EWE can undertake these ratings or offer specialist consulting in whole or part for designs and buildings and infrastructure dealing with these rating tools.

Renewable Energy Design and Feasibility

Many people have a passion for renewable energy. At Energy Water and Environment, we certainly do. The gradual move to a low carbon economy means that harnessing renewable energy sources is becoming increasingly essential and cost effective over whole of life. Low carbon fuels such as natural gas are also becoming more prominent. At Energy Water and Environment (EWE) we understand the detail of the design, social and economic issues of renewable and low carbon energy systems.

Water Sustainability

Although most of Australia has recenctly recovered from drought, it’s important that water sustainabiity remains a high priority so we can reduce the impact of the next drought. Efficiency in use of potable water, effective collection of rainwater and recycling of wastewater remain vital components of sustainability in the built environment.
